We currently live in a small apartment on the top of Telegraph Hill in bustling San Francisco - our commute to the studio each day involves a hair rising bike ride through the heart of downtown traffic. We are constantly surrounded by people and noise, and I love it! But, there was a time when our life was much quieter - we lived in a big house in Oregon, and I spent much of my time creating a large garden with maple trees, bulbs and tons of rhododendrons. Inspired by a serene pathway we saw in the amazing Japanese Garden in Portland's Washington Park, my husband and I decided to create a slate pathway of our own. It was during this exercise of choosing just the right stones, designing the layout, and filling in with mosses and flowering begonias that we became moved to design the Stepping Stone collection. It will always be a peaceful reminder of our former, quieter life! |
