SCALLOP

The scallop technique is characterized by a series of graceful curves reminiscent of a scallop shell’s edge. It features curved, semi-circle edges in oxidized cobalt chrome around prong set diamonds.

I have had many customers ask me to set diamonds directly in the cobalt chrome - and I can't blame them - the contrast between the brilliance of a diamond and the matte black of my oxidized cobalt chrome is irresistible! Alas, cobalt chrome is too hard to set stones in, so here is my work around: each stone rests in a tube of gold that is hidden by a scallop edged cobalt chrome surround, with only the gold prongs appearing at the surface to hold the stones securely in place. Fortunately, having a bit of gold showing is hardly a sacrifice - it only adds to the beautiful look!
